AIDS Alabama provides a variety of HIV prevention education and outreach services in an effort to raise community awareness and prevent new HIV infections.

Beauty in Knowing is one of AIDS Alabama’s innovative prevention education programs that targets African-American woman between the ages of 18 and 45 who are studying at local cosmetology schools in Birmingham and Jefferson County. The program is comprised of five ninety-minute sessions addressing issues including: stigma related to HIV and HIV infection; self-esteem; male-to-female sex ratio; povery; and condum use negotiation skils, which contribute to the spread of HIV/AIDS amoung urban, low-income African-American women residing in Birmingham and Jefferson County.
