AIDS Alabama plans to open an emergency, overnight shelter and transitional living program designed specifically for the unique needs of Birmingham’s homeless, runaway, and at-risk youth. Currently, there is no program of this kind in our city. Known as the Way Station, this program will offer 24-hour emergency accommodations for a 30- to 60-day stay and a transitional living program for youth 16 to 24 years of age for an up to two-year stay. With an opening set for the end of the year 2020, the Way Station will be built on four adjacent lots on 3rd Avenue North and Seventh Street North.
