AIDS Alabama, through its family and community services, provides vital services and programs of interest that embrace, enhance and nurture the particular needs of our community. Current programs include Gamechanger, I AM HE, I AM SHE, SOMOS NOSOtros (WE ARE), and Black Gay Pride
El Centro/The HUB
El Centro Hub is a welcoming, comfortable space for young gay, bisexual, and trans-men of color who are 13-29 years old located at 2217 6th Avenue South in Birmingham. El Centro HUB offers several services including CLEAR counseling, HIV testing, Hepatitis-C screening, group sessions, and referral services. GAMECHANGER
The Gamechanger Project is a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) funded collaboration initiative. The collaborative partners for this project are the Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH), Center for AIDS Research (CFAR), Jefferson County Health Department, UAB Family Clinic, UAB 1917 Clinic, AIDS Alabama, Birmingham AIDS Outreach (BAO) and Alethia House.
I AM HE
(Healthy and Empowered)
A peer-led support group for men living with HIV/AIDS. I Am HE meets monthly and focuses on the overall health and well-being of the participants. Activities include social outings like dinner and a movie, as well as group lead discussions and educational programs from community partners. I AM SHE
(Healthy and Empowered)
A peer-led support group for women living with HIV/AIDS. I Am SHE meets bi-monthly and focuses on issues like self-empowerment, stigma and other issues that are specifically related to women. I AM SHE is a group of women who support each other mentally and spiritually.
